Sierra Leone Ambassador Bids Farewell in Saudi Arabia

Addressing staff at his office, the outgoing Head of Mission thanked the Sierra Leone Embassy Staff and the entire Sierra Leone Community in the Kingdom for the support and cooperation he received from them during his tenure.

He made a brief rundown of what each section of the Embassy has accomplished during his tour of duty. He commended the Embassy’s Translator, Abdul Salaam Hussein, the Accounts Clerk, Abdul Rahman Jalloh, the Liaison Officer, Sorie Ibrahim Kanu, the Handyman, Shuaib Kwame Bumakpor, the drivers, among others for their invaluable services they rendered during his tenure. He said their services will always be remembered, adding that he is confident that his successor will enjoy similar cooperation and support.

In a voice laced with mixed emotions of euphoria and sadness, the outgoing envoy said, parting with people you have spent a long time with is a very difficult situation. But he also hastened to point out that: “It’s a sad moment, but I have to quit and give chance to others to serve the country.”

He admonished all Sierra Leoneans in the Kingdom to respect the laws of the land and always be law-abiding.

The Information Attaché, M.B. Jalloh on behalf of his colleagues thanked the Ambassador for recognizing their invaluable services to the Embassy. Jalloh said they are grateful and pleased with the words of appreciation they received from the outgoing envoy and that they will always remember such commendations.

Speaker after speaker, in return, paid tribute to the Ambassador and wished him a very safe journey to Sierra Leone. The farewell ceremony was chaired by the Head of Chancery, Umaru S. Dura and vote of thanks by Confidential Secretary, Yealie Sesay.

Mr. Munu joined the Sierra Leone Civil Service in 1965, a year after graduating from Fourah Bay College. He worked as Assistant District Officer in Bombali, Tonkolili, and Kono Districts. He also served as District Officer in Kenema and Koinadugu Districts. He has also worked at State House as Secretary to the Second Vice President and in the Ministries of Defense, Health and Agriculture as Senior Assistant Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Permanent Secretary respectively.

In 1978 – 1979, he was the Kenema based Provincial Secretary of the Eastern Province. In 1991, he served as Secretary for the Peter Tucker Constitutional Review Commission which prepared that year’s Constitution of the country. In 1992, he retired from Public Service.

Nine years after retirement from the service, he became a Member of Parliament (MP) for the then opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party representing Bombali District. He spent six years in Parliament and served as member of the following Parliamentary Oversight Committees: Public Accounts, Mineral Resources, Agriculture and Food Security, Local Government and Rural Development. He was also Parliamentary Chairman of the Committee on Privileges. He left Parliament in 2007 and appointed Ambassador in 2008.
