As local Golfers misfire, Ghanaian icon retains 2013 Golf Open

December 1st 2013 was a sad disappoint and embarrassing day when our professional golfers sailed to excel against their Ghanaian, Nigerian and Iranian counter parts in the 2013 golf open even though they were in top form in past tournaments in preparation for the big show.

In 2011 it was a Ghanaian by the name of Godwin Sai who won the tournament and Paul Kargbo came 2nd which was encouraging.

There was no open tournament in 2012 because of the National Election.

After assuring Sierra Leoneans that the 2013 Golf open will be won by a Sierra Leonean, instead their overall performance was nothing to write home about as our best ranked Golfer Jerry Dumbuya and Irarian – Koname K. Richard were joint 5th place winners with three under par respectively.

It was Amos Korblah the veteran who won the star prize of $10,000 and a giant Gold Trophy with a super performance of  11 under par, his countryman victor Brave – Mansah took 2nd position with 6 under par.

Nigerian Icon – Gift Willy and Ghanaian Wizard Torgah Vincent both took 3rd position with 4 under par, Gambian born Kabba Drammeh who is based in England took 7th position with 1 under par.

17 Ghanaian and 16 Sierra Leoneans took part in the professional category.

Amos Korblah the 2013 Champions revealed to this press that he has been defeated at the Freetown Golf club twice by James Lebbie and winning his 1st Trophy in Sierra Leone is his happiest moment in 2013.  His last visit before was 20 years ago.  His current achievement means he is the king of Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Ghana and West Africa, he praised the Freetown Golf club for their hospitalities to the entire foreign Golfers.

“We did not perform well because we do not have sponsors like our foreign colleagues,” the home based Golfers cried. The chief dignitary present at the closing ceremony was the minister of sports Paul Kamara and the tournament sponsors, the media and the entire general members of the Freetown Golf Club.
