John Fannel last week led 52 other Golfers in the Professional category by one under par to take the lead in the much trumpeted tournament which has been described as the best ever organized at Freetown Golf Club.

Speaking to this press, he said he is delighted to have been in front on the opening day and vowed to clinch the star prize and a giant gold trophy which will be presented on Sunday, December 1 by President Ernest Bai Koroma.

His closest rivals are his Sierra Leonean counterparts, Francis Davies Jr., the defending champion, Godwin Sai, Torgah Vincent, and Anthony Gbenyor, all with a level score respectively.  Third position is occupied by Jerry Dumbuya of Sierra Leone, Amos Korblah, Victor Brave-Mensah both from Ghana, Gift Willy from Nigeria, and Kouame K. Richard from Ivory Coast, all scoring one over par.

The Amateur category will commence their tournament on Saturday, November 30 while the Professionals will climax their tournament on the afternoon of Sunday, December 1.

The prize giving ceremony will take place at  6:00pm on Sunday, December 1.
