No Increment in SLRTC bus fares

The General Manager of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC), Mr. Bockarie Lewis Kamara, has disclosed in an exclusive interview over the weekend via cell phone discussion that there would be no increase in the transportation fares of their buses as was suggested by last week by a local newspaper.

He disclosed that they were repairing five buses to join their fleet to ply the country.

During the interview, he disclosed that he was in Kono where he was investigating problems of their buses plying the Kono-Freetown route and causing serious financial loss to the Corporation because when they make Le2million they would end up spending over Le3million on maintenance per day, which he described an an over-burden on the Corporation.

He indicated that he will not do anything to bring down his reputation which he has built over the years.

He clarified that at no point in time has he attempted to sabotage the office of the Minister of Transport and Aviation (MTA), but that on the day in question there was a delay by some buses when the Transport Minister, Hon. Leonard Balogun Koroma visited Calaba town to launch the ‘Operation no half way’ there.

He called on Journalists to always cross check their information about their Corporation before publishing them.

“I am doing all I can to provide buses for commuters but yet still people don’t seem to appreciate my efforts because they are bent on pulling me down which is not good for the country,” he lamented.

He appealed on the Government to provide them with enough buses in order to ease the perennial transportation problems in the in the country.

He further called on Government to speedily address the issue of the Kono Makeni road, which he said is deplorable and causing too much damage to their vehicles and accidents to the road users.
