Businessman pleads for courteous exportation of food products

A popular businessman, Alhaji Abubakarr Barrie, resident of Gbalamuya Chiefdom, Kambia district in the north of the country has recently made a public statement pleading that the people in Sierra Leone should to be courteous in the exportation of food products.

He also stated that food production and food sufficiency should be monitored to help eradicate poverty and suffering among the people especially the children.

He made this statement in a day’s meeting held within their community geared towards sensitizing the people on the food sufficiency and security and the courteous commercialization of food products from Sierra Leone.

He said that the exchange of goods and services among friendly foreign nations could help in the sustainability development, adding that with enough of certain products in the country, the people serve to help their international friends on the basis of commercialization of these products.

Popularly known as Alhaji Piltu of Gbalamuya, he further pleaded with the people to take the production and commercialization of agricultural products seriously, pointing out that his success as a businessman comes from agriculture which he said he believes should be inspiring for others to follow.

He further pleaded with the Ministry of Works to embark on the construction of roads across the country as bad roads have been discouraging farmers and the transportation of food products to places for consumers.

He observed that even though the roads are full of constraints to ply on, members of the Sierra Leone Drivers Union, under the leadership of Alhaji Abu Bakarr Fofanah have been helpful and cooperative for the transportation of food products for consumption from that part of the country.

He commended the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security for putting in place strategies and several projects that will help gear the people’s minds on the benefits that could be derived from involving in the massive production and commercialization of agricultural products.

He observed that the recent widely spread “Everybody must farm” project by the ‘King of Pop,’ General Sfano, will further influence the attention of the general populace and will urge them to be involved in the activities of the production and commercialization of agricultural products for their benefits.

He called on Agriculture Ministry to support nation-wide sensitization concerts for the pop idol which he said he believed will greatly enhance the food security drive.
