Pontifical Mission Societies in biennial meeting of NDESA

The Pontifical Mission Societies on Tuesday commenced their biennial meeting of the National Directors of English Speaking Africa (NDESA).

The meeting which was hosted by the Inter-Territorial Catholic Bishops Conference of the Gambia and Sierra Leone (ITCABIC) was held in Sierra Leone at Saint Anthony’s Parish at Brookfields, Freetown on the theme, ‘’Building a vibrant self-reliant Church in Africa.‘’

Speaking at the forum was the Arch Bishop of Freetown, Bishop Edward Charles who welcomed all national and international guests.

He described the theme of the occasion as timely for the African Churches and emphasized the need to share among Churches as a way of demonstrating maturity in their noble places of warship.

He maintained that the sharing of experiences will help them promote the Churches in the African continent.

Presenting the Holy Childhood of Saint Anthony’s Parish, one of the Teachers of the Holy Childhood, Mrs. Gloria Bayoh, intimated that the children are taught the Catechism of the Baptist Church and the Bible.

Delivering his statement, the President of the National Directors of English Speaking Africa (NDESA) Reverend Father M. Zulu reaffirmed that they as a mission welcomed the idea of experience sharing among the Churches in Africa.

He described the occasion as an opportunity for them to know the essence of sharing material resources in the Mission. He stated that it is their wish for the international forum to review their vision and glorify the Mission. He stated that their desire was to promote mutual aid within the Churches, emphasizing that the Mission has become so important in the life of Christians in Africa because as he put it, it has been contributing greatly in the growth of faith among Christians in Africa. He appealed to all Christians to continue to be one body in Jesus Christ.

In his statement, the Apostolic Administrator of Makeni, Father Nathalio, pointed out that they are in the forum because they want to share their experiences. He stressed that it was important for someone to share with the little he or she has to the needy which he described as a sign of maturation in the Churches.
