45 home based players resume training but…
Forty five unprepared home based players who were invited by Coach Johnny McKinstry on Monday, October 7 this year have resumed training in preparation for next month’s West Africa Football Union (WAFU) competition at the Football Academy at Kingtom in Freetown.
The third edition of the WAFU competition will take place in Ghana on from November 21 to December 1, 2013 and it will comprise of eight national teams that will be divided into two groups,
The Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) competition will be hosted in South Africa in January, 2014.
The organizers of WAFU will take full responsibilities of accommodation, food and internal transportation and each team will receive the sum of $5,000 as participating bonus when they get to Accra, Ghana.
Surprisingly our team players have not been playing any competitive football for the past two months and most stakeholders and supporters who spoke to this press said it was very unrealistic to play such competition, arguing that this was a way of avoiding another embarrassing result in Ghana, adding we cannot one cannot fatten one’s pigs on the market day.
Meanwhile, the past three days training sessions are like a real comedy as players are not uniformed, performance is far below par, and teams are surrounded by an inexperienced technical team.
