Saudi Arabia on Media Coverage During Hajj
The Ministry of Hajj Affairs has in a Press Release issued today informed all authorities concerned with Hajj affairs about procedures upon which Foreign Media delegations will operate during this year’s Hajj.
The release signed by the Minister of Hajj, Dr. Bandar Bin Mohamed Al Hajjar states that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prohibits any form of media practice on its soil unless in accordance with Saudi laid down rules and regulations – which stipulate that permission must be obtained from Saudi Arabian Ministry of Culture and Information before practicing any form of media activity during the Hajj period.
In case any of the Pilgrims Office Affairs would like to be accompanied by Media Delegation to Saudi Arabia, the release adds, the Pilgrims Affairs Office concerned has to provide to the Ministry of Hajj detailed information including the number of members of the media delegation, the Establishment they work for, the photographing equipment and device they carry along within the period not less than three (3) months prior to their entry to the Kingdom and also forward same information to the Ministry of Culture and Information at E-mail: hajj@moci.gov.sa
The release concludes: “We hope all authorities concerned with Hajj affairs from countries from which pilgrims originate would adhere to the above stated directives.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry has also warned expatriates performing Hajj without permit. “If you are caught, you will face an immediate deportation and 10 years ban to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” an SMS Message sent to subscribers of Mobily, a mobile communications and technology provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reads.
