My Area FC lifts MAFA trophy
My Area FC on Friday, September 6 beat Jenneh FC 5-4 on post penalties after a 1-1 full time result to win the MAFA Footballers Round Robin Gala held at the MAFA Playing Field, Lumley.
Kemokai Kallon put Jenneh FC ahead with a superb goal but mid first half Mamadu Barrie levelled the scores 1-1 before the break. Both teams were impressive in the second half but the ding dong encounter ended 1-1 sending both teams to decide their superiority though post penalty kicks.
Jenneh FC who had earlier on in the round robin defeated My Area FC came down 5-4 on post penalties to My Area FC.
Speaking to the Chairlady of My Area FC, Madam Marion Kane, popularly known as Peggie, she said she was very delighted to have won her second trophy at the MAFA Playing Field in less than a year. She paid glowing tribute to the players, supporters, friends and well wishers and the organizers for a peaceful and thrilling gala.
The Chairman of the winning team, Mr. Mohamed Fofanah widely known as Fofie, said he was optimistic that his team will win the championship trophy because they had the better squad and committed supporters compared to the other teams.
The Chairlady of Jenneh FC, Madam Jenneh, said even though she was not happy losing the grand final, she was thankful to her boys for their wonderful performance throughout the competition. She noted that she hoped they will do better in future competitions.
The chief organizers, Coach Darlington thanked his colleagues, clubs supporters and all those who contributed in diverse ways for the gala to be a grand success. He revealed that they will commence another gala next month.
