Port Loko Demands X-Ray Machine

Residents of Port Loko District have called on Government and the Port Loko District Council to install the new X-ray machine provided by the African Development Bank (ADB) in the newly-constructed modern hospital.

Abdul Kamara, a youth activist disclosed to this medium that the first x-ray machine for the hospital was provided by the late Vice President S. I. Koroma and that the machine was not installed until it became obsolete before some of the parts were removed and taken to the Magburaka Government Hospital.

He further revealed that people pay Le 14,000 to and fro Lunsar for an x-ray with others finding it very difficult or even impossible to pay for the facility.

The Secretary at the Port Loko Government Hospital, Roda Bangura disclosed that some medical equipment are stocked at the ADB sponsored refurbished hospital that would soon be commissioned adding that by next week, the radiologist would arrive in the township to give the estimate to the Port Loko District Council for the installation of the x-ray machine.

He added that the Council would hire a contractor for the installation and assured that by the middle of this month, the x-ray machine would be operational.

The Hospital Matron, Rebecca Morlu revealed that the Hospital Management and the Council are work together to install the x-ray machine.

Matron Rebecca Morlu further stated that the tricycles the Council provided are used three times a week to dispose waste and stated that the hospital is cleared three times a day.
