Protest for Afsatu Kabba stuck

The Islamic Forum-Sierra Leone has prevailed on supporters and fans of Haja Afsatu Kabba, ex-Energy and Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, across the country, to withhold a protest action, on behalf of the former APC Minister, for a speedy hearing of the appeal matter between her and the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), which they described as being prolonged in the Court of Appeal in Freetown.

Founding member of the Islamic Forum, Sorie Ibrahim Kabia disclosed to this press that concerns are being raised from market women in various areas in country that the politician’s matter be expedited like other high profiled matters that were brought before the court.  He said that had it not been for the intervention of the Islamic Forum, market women in Tombo and the Western Area could have held a peaceful protest before State House, the Law Court Building and the House of Parliament, this week,  to express their concern over the snail-pace progression of the Appeal matter  which has taken over two years before the Judiciary of the Republic of Sierra Leone, without ruling.

Kabia described the relationship between the politician and the market women as cordial, noting that the good works of Haja Afsatu, as Minister and MP, still exist with in them. “She helped people a lot while in she was in power, this makes them very concerned,” Kabia audaciously maintained.  He said the Islamic Forum, being peace and development oriented, was able to explain to the desperate market women to exercise restraint and allow the Judiciary to do its job.

Being remembered for the electricity supply she helped to restore when the APC took over after  the 2007 elections, political observers in the country are of the view that the Appeal Court matter will decide the political fate of Haja Afsatu Kabba who recently celebrated her 60th birthday.

Sources with in the Judiciary revealed that the much awaited ruling will be delivered before the end of this year.
