Kono Gets Gold and Diamond Miners Association

In a very big meeting organized by ten diamondiferous chiefdoms in the Kono District including a cross section of gold and diamond mining land owners and the grass root diggers in the district, land owners expressed dismay over environmental degradation of across the district while their people continue to remain in poverty. They agreed that the Association is formed to put an end to the various disadvantages that are faced by the mining community in Kono with a bid to alleviating poverty in the entire Kono District. Chairman of the association Mr. Brima Lebbie pointed out that for so long foreign investors and fanciers from neighboring countries have pillaged Kono with no sign of development to show for it. He assured that his association will certainly focus on the lapses that are detergent to the development of the District with a bid to righting the wrongs.

Mr. Lebbie encouraged members to always renew their mining licenses in order to boost government revenue and called on local miners to form cooperatives that will seek the welfare of miners and subsequently foster growth in their communities.
