Internship defines a process of career development

The National Youth Commission (NAYCOM), in collaboration with the United Nations Development program [UNDP] has ended a two day Graduate Internship training program for pre- selected University Graduates.

The training which attracted over one thousand participants was held at a jam-packed Atlantic Hall at the National Stadium, Brookfields in Freetown , was part of continued efforts to reduce problems of unemployment among young graduates from various higher learning institutions across the country.

In his presentation, the program manager, National Youth Commission [NAYCOM] Momodu Wudie, said the internship concept defines a process of career development.

He stated that the objective of the training is to resolve the general courage of qualified and skilled people in the workforce as graduate will be encouraged to equip themselves with the required know how.

The program manager maintained that, the implementation of the Graduates Internship program involves three parties including Prospective interns, Prospective employers and NAYCOM/ UNDP.

He stated that, a transparent Board is being established to select the most qualified candidates and match them with placement institutions, adding that UNDP/ NAYCOM coordinate and mediate between interns and employers and warranting fulfillment of obligations

According to Mr. Momodu Wudie, the prospective employers program is open to the public, private and third sectors employers, including international organizations. He noted that formal and informal orientation of interns will provide a forum for graduates to be able to perform in work places, and the Monitoring and Evaluation System established for the quality of internship through mid term.

The Program Manager concluded by urging all participants to make good use of the opportunity availed to them, as according to him, opportunity comes but once.
