Vimetco General Manager Sacked… Deputy Resigns
The Vimetco Bauxite Mining Company appears to be embroiled in a protracted power struggle between the Romanians and the South Africans.
Inside sources say the company has now changed seven General Managers in two years and in less than a year the Romanians have succeeded in frustrating three South African Managers out of the company, a situation which is said to have adversely affected the operations of the company.
On the 31st July this year, the Acting General Manager, South African born Lola Trolip, was reportedly sacked for poor performance which many workers describe as inevitable due to the financial starvation the Rumanians inflicted upon her administration. Lola Trolip’s sudden and suspicious dismissal prompted the instant resignation of the Deputy General Manager, another South African, Johan De Bruin, reports continue. Another South African, Franz Van Reneen reportedly resigned on 30th July this year.
It could be recalled that by the close of last year, another South African General Manager, Theo K eyter resigned when the company’s head office in Romania refused to approve his budget to put the company on a better footing and improve the deplorable conditions of service for the aggrieved workers.
Theo Keyter’s resignation triggered a sit down strike which wrecked the operations of the company for days. He was succeeded by the recently sacked Lola Trolips who took office in March this year.
Our investigations further revealed that shortly before the shocking sacking of Lola Trolips, the Chief Executive Officer of Vimetco-NV in Romania, Gheorge Dobra, flew from Romania and visited the company’s office at the Gondama plant site on what appeared to be an auditing exercise.
This paper gathered that Mr. Dobra’s unexpected visit to the Gondama plant site worried many Paramount Chiefs who have been observing that whenever he visited the Gondama office, a Manager was sure to be sacked.
Reportedly, the worried Paramount Chiefs wrote a letter to the National Mining Agency advocating for the retention of the new Acting General Manager, Lola Trolip but to no avail. Many Paramount Chiefs and workers have registered their dissatisfaction over the dismissal of Lola Trolip.
Trolip has been replaced by a Romanian General Manager, Romeo Curoi, who has come back after serving in the first Rumanian management.
Meanwhile, the frequent change of management is reported to have rendered the company economically impotent as it is yet to settle the bills owed to petrol dealers, spare part vendors and other suppliers.
