CID Officers beat and injure escapee in Sierra Leone
Two officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Central police in Bo are reported to have severely beaten and injured a suspect called Foday Kamara who is said to have resisted the police in an attempt to escape justice.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the suspect was beaten and wounded when he and his boss, Mr. Aruna, resisted the police who were taking them to search their premises following reports that they stole 18 cartoons of tile from one Alhaji Dumbuya for whom they were constructing a house at Orlando Street, Tokpoi town in Bo.
The two CID officers, Alex and Morkoi, in an interview, confessed to Sierra Express that they beat up Foday Kamara who they accused of not only obstructing the duties of the police but also assaulting the police in desperate attempt to evade justice. The story goes that Foday Kamara, the beaten suspect, was the caretaker of the house where the eighteen cartoons of tiles were allegedly stolen and that Aruna was the contractor.
According to the police, both Aruna and Foday Kamara were invited and Aruna was detained. Later, the two CID officers, Alex and Morkoi, were instructed to lead the two suspects and search their premises. On the way, both suspects put up stiff resistance and challenged the police in an attempt to escape. The two CID officers said they were left with no alternative but to apply force to prevent the suspects, who were not handcuffed, from escaping. The skirmish that ensued reportedly left one CID officer, Alex, wounded and one suspect, Foday Kamara injured.
Those who witnessed the scuffle confirmed that the suspects and their relatives assaulted the police and that the police also beat up the suspects, injuring one of them, Foday Kamara.
