Tombo Jetty in Bad Shape…MODCOM Blamed for Bad Work

The newly-constructed jetty at Tombo in the Western Rural District is reported to be a white elephant as it could not be utilized by the community because it was improperly constructed by the Moyamba District Construction Company, (MODCON).

The Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Fisheries and Marine Resources on Friday, 5th July, 2013, visited the Tombo Jetty and discovered that it was in bad shape, much to the disappointment of the committee.

The Committee Chairperson, Honorable  Veronica Sesay, told the residents of Tombo that their visit was aimed at getting first hand information on how the jetty was constructed and whether it has all the facilities it is supposed to have before instructing balance payment to the contractor, MODCON.

Chief Alimamy Kamara told the committee that the jetty was not properly constructed and that boats cannot land without damaging it.
