Agenda for Whose Prosperity?

Agenda for Whose Prosperity?

In good faith, President Ernest Bai Koroma launched the Agenda for Prosperity for the prosperity of every Sierra Leonean who is ready to prosper but recent events within government circles imply that some avaricious public officials are hell-bent on converting the agenda to their own prosperity.

The massive money theft now obtaining in certain government institutions compels this press to wonder whether the Agenda for Prosperity is not just for the prosperity few brave thieves. The massive financial fraud reportedly perpetrated by some officials of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) and the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, both being the power houses of our Agenda for Prosperity, tempts this press to believe that few people are hard at work trying to hijack the agenda for their own prosperity.

Already, the agenda seems to be characterized by a widened social gap with many going hungry while some others are overfed with defrauded state funds. Again, there are those who are allergic to prosperity, those who lack the ability to prosper; those who can never prosper no matter the amount of agenda. They are the lazy, unemployable and idle ones for whom the Agenda for Prosperity is not meant.

Being a development-oriented man, President Koroma had genuine intention for launching the Agenda for Prosperity but our laziness and corruption can spoil the agenda and make if look like an agenda for poverty. It is only through our collective diligence and honesty that we can realize the Agenda for Prosperity.
