Speaking at a meeting, organised this past weekend, for the new Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the UK, Young Leaders-Sierra Leone’s (YLSL) president Unisa Dizo-Conteh said such office would provide a win-win opportunity for both youths in the Diaspora and Sierra Leone.

He said the “Office for the Youth” would act as a “focal point” that would as a result provide much encouragement for Sierra Leonean youths in the Diaspora to make a meaningful contribution to the sustainable development of their country”.

Amongst some of the benefits he mentioned, Dizo said: “such office would enhance government of Sierra Leone agenda by making sure that youth programmes in the Diaspora are in harmony with national agenda”.

Responding to Dizo’s request, the new High Commissioner His Excellency Edward Mohamed Turay said that his office will always be open to discuss such initiatives.

This is probably the first time someone has publicly called for the establishment of an office, situated in the Sierra Leone High Commission, solely dedicated to serving Sierra Leonean youths in the Diaspora.
