Violence in Pujehun
A boundary dispute between the Gallineas Perri and the Futa Pejeh chiefdoms in Pujehun District in Southern Sierra Leone has taken a violent dimension.
The ugly situation was reported to this press by the District Officer, Pujehun, Kemoh Mansaray, during an exclusive interview at his office, recently.
Mr. Mansaray informed that the dispute involves residents of Sarguihun village in Gallineas Perri and those of Bumbe in Futa Pejeh. He revealed that the quarrel has degenerated into sporadic violence with residents of Sarguihun allegedly attacking a village called Meema in Futa Pejeh, beating up the residents, looting their properties and razing their houses.
According to the District Officer, the attacks launched by Sarguihun are allegedly spearheaded by one chief Gbessay Koroma who reportedly carries a military rifle, terrorizing residents of Futa Pejeh. The violent situation was also confirmed to this medium by the Officer Commanding the Potoru Police station, Woman Inspector Christiana Mackavoray and the Local Unit Commander of Pujehun Police Station, supt Tamba Richard Seddu both of whom are now hard at work trying to resolve the dispute.
Already, the Assistant Inspector General, South, David Sesay is reported to have a team of OSD personnel to the disputed area.
