Armed Police for Tiwai Island, Sierra Leone
The Officer Commanding the Potoru Police Station in Barri Chiefdom, Pujehun District, Southern Province, Woman Inspector Christiana Mackavoray has recommended the deployment of armed police personnel on the Tiwai Island, a wild life sanctuary that serves as a tourist attraction. OC Mackavoray made the suggestion recently during an exclusive interview with Sierra Express in her office in Potoru.
Giving reason for her recommendation, OC Mackavoray informed that she has been receiving intermittent reports of poaching, that is, illicit hunting and killing of the preserved animals on the island. She recalled that sometime ago, some Malaysians were reported to be engaged in illegal fishing on the island.
