SALWACO clears air over $69m project in Sierra Leone

The Station Manager of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) in Lungi, Mr. Lansana Sawi, has reacted to an article carried by this paper on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, captioned: “US $69m project in limbo … SALWACO cries foul.”

Talking to Sierra Express Media this week in a telephone conversation, Sawi said Angelique International Limited has never mismanaged funds meant for water implementation as was stated in the said article.

He stated that even though he talked with some Journalists, what he discussed with them was about the successes of the implementation of the project and its expected time of completion.  He said he was shocked to read what he referred to as a complete misrepresentation of what they discussed.

Referring to the newspaper article as incorrect, he stated that he never told the Journalists that the project was worth sixty nine million Dollars ($69m).

“How can I state an estimated amount when we didn’t even discuss about monetary issues?” he queried.

Mr. Lansana Sawi further explained that the inroads of Angelique Company in Sierra Leone in the areas of improved water supply, electricity, and agriculture deserve credit from the people of this country.

He disclosed that currently the company has completed water projects in Kailahun, four communities in Freetown while completion of the first phase of the Lungi water project is speedily coming to finishing point.
