Ballon Proprietor Catalogues Problems

The Ballon International Academy Preparatory School recently held its annual speech and prizegiving ceremony on the school campus at 23 Back Street, Kissy, Freetown.

Giving a brief background of the school, the proprietor and headteacher, Emmanuel Saffa Kallon, said the school started as a remedial institution to supplement the efforts of public schools by providing extra classes for all levels of pupils in the Kissy Community. Established in 2005, he went on, the school has grown rapidly and can now boast of over 150 pupils.

He pointed out that the school started training pupils for the National Primary School Examinations (NPSE), in 2006, with remarkable passes.

Cataloguing the constraints facing the school, Mr. Kallon said the school lacks spacious land, office space and recreational ground among others. The school’s problems are further compounded by late payment of school charges, financial burden of paying teachers’ stipends and high cost of rent for the structure the school is occupying.

The annual speech day and prize giving ceremony was preceded by this year’s inter-house athletics sports meet at the Mile-end field, Hooke Street, Kissy.
