Sierra Leone/Mauritania Ambassadors hold bilateral meeting

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sierra Leone and that  of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of  Mauritania yesterday  held fruitful discussions in Dakar Senegal, bordering on  bilateral, economic and other  related issues.

The two envoys, Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir and Ambassador Aly Ould Haiba, expressed the urgent need for better and closer political cooperation between their respective governments, in order to strongly support each other on issues of mutual interest and concerns.

Both Ambassadors promised to work together in the areas of trade and air transportation that would doubtless benefit both countries and the region. Ambassador Haiba recalled the Sierra Leone Ambassador’s proposal to the government of Mauritania and agreement reached for the commencement of operations of Mauritania Airline flights to Freetown. He informed that the Transport Ministry of his government is presently working on the modalities for its commencement.

Both Ambassadors further discussed the need to appoint active Honorary Consuls in the two capitals to closely monitor matters of bilateral interests. Ambassador Bassir pleaded with her counterpart for due consideration to be given to the welfare of Sierra Leoneans especially the students in Mauritania.

H.E. Ambassador Bassir, expressed gratitude to the government and people of Mauritania, through Ambassador Haiba for their show of support in the discharge of her duties in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Both Ambassadors had a review on current global issues particularly on those affecting the African continent.
