12-year old boy killed in road accident
Port Loko, March (SLENA): Gbangba Turay, a 12-year old boy was knocked down at his village of Foredugu, Port Loko District by a Mercedes Benz truck with Registration Number ACA 480 driven by one Ibrahim Kargbo of 7 Canteen Street, Freetown.
The boy met his untimely death while crossing the road.
Frantic efforts were made to rush him to the nearest St. John of God Catholic Hospital in Lunsar but the effort proved fruitless as the boy died upon arrival at the hospital.
According to the District Traffic Officer at the Lunsar Police Station, Inspector Mohamed Mansaray, the driver was heading for Freetown from Makeni. The cause of the accident could not be ascertained but he said it could be unconnected with what he referred to as over-speeding.
The traffic officer further reported of another fatal road accident that occurred at Gbomsamba, approximately 12 miles from Foredugu.
The officer said the accident involved a Land Rover Discovery with Registration Number AHS 056 which was heading for Makeni from Freetown driven by Alfred Conteh of No. 68 New Castle Street, Freetown.
A female pedestrian, Fatmata Bangura of Romanoh village in Makari Gbanthi Chiefdom, Bombali District was involved in the accident.
Fatmata was on her way to sell her wares when she was hit by the said vehicle. Inspector Mansaray said both matters are under investigation, and that the two drivers have been detained to help in the investigation.
