Tarawalie vs Land Grabbers

Over the years, land grabbing has been the order of the day in this nation; many Sierra Leoneans have made it a lucrative occupation and our courts are overloaded with land cases. Sometimes, land palavers degenerate into bloody battles and loss of lives.

To retrieve state lands, the then Sierra Leone People;s Party (SLPP) Lands Minister, Bobson Sesay launched a notorious demolition exercise that climaxed in the brutal murder of a senior official in the Lands Ministry, Ken Moore, and the burning down of a bulldozer. Bobson Sesay became a recipient of unprintable invectives and blacklabelled, “broke ose,” (break houses).

Like Bobson Sesay, the current Minister of Lands, Country Planning and Environment, Musa Tarawalie , has started receiving his own punishment for just being patriotic enough to brave the risk of retrieving state land from desperate land racketeers.  Musa Tarawalie is now being persecuted by lawless and unpatriotic people who boo at him and rain invectives on him publicly. The minister deserves maximum security as he has undertaken a perilous, though patriotic venture.

However, I know Musa Tarawalie to be a man who cannot easily be cowed by threats or daunted by insults, he is a determined soul that believes in accomplishing any project he undertakes, no matter the hurdles involved. Land grabbers are therefore advised to cooperate with the minister by relinquishing the state lands without resistance.

Musa Tarawalie deserves a pat on the back for embarking on retrieval of state lands and he deserves maximum security as he is on a clearly dangerous exercise. State land must be protected in the interest of the citizenry and even for generations unborn. We should not abandon those lands at the mercy of land thieves; our state land must not continue to be a free-for-all business, so, the minister has every justification to embark on the exercise and if we love our land, we should support him, not boo at him for doing the right thing.

Go ahead, Mr. Minister, never surrender to those unpatriotic detractors who do not want to see sanity prevailing in this country.
