$1 million for eye care in Sierra Leone

The oldest commercial bank in Sierra Leone, the Standard Chartered Bank, has donated $1 million to support eye care in the country.

The bank donated the money through its ‘Seeing Is Believing Project’ on comprehensive eye care. The project is for comprehensive eye health care and is to last from 2012-2016. The Standard Chartered Bank has three implementing partners for the project, Sight Savers International, Helen Keller International and the Christopher Blinden Mission, CBM.

According to the Head of Corporate Affairs, Madam Kumba Ngongou, the project aims at improving the human resource of the eye health care sector through constant training of personnel. She noted that the project has already supported two officials to study ophthalmology in Uganda, adding that the project also involves the provision of adequate and appropriate equipment to enhance good quality eye health care service in the country.
