President’s Golf Tournament ends in Grand Style
The president’s Golf, Squash, and Tennis Tournament which commenced on the 18th February,2013 was climaxed on Saturday 23rd February at the Freetown Golf Club, Beach Road.
Before the prize giving ceremony at the Freetown Golf Complex, the President of the Freetown Golf Club, Mr. Solomon Samba, who is the Managing Director of Aureole Insurance Company (AIC) thanked the executive, staff and members of the Freetown Golf Club for their diligence and dedication in promoting the club.
The captain of the club, Anne B. Johansen, also hailed the president for his tremendous effort in ensuring that the club is well established while Alieu .M. Sesay praised Mr. Solomon Samba for improving the standard of the club and brining closer the club members.
In the prize giving ceremony, Paul Kargbo was the winner in the professional golf category with ten under par. In the Amateurs men, Peter Lebbie was the champion with a net of 68 and in the ladies category, Anne Koroma came 1st with a net of 66. Rev. Sorie Kargbo won the best gross of 76 and nearest to the pin was won by Nduka Anyaso.
Peter Lebbie was the hero in the men’s Longest Drive while Nikita Shallop won Ladies Longest Drive and told the Sierra Express of her delight and consistency in all competitions this year.
In the junior caddies, Abel Kelly won a championship prize with a net of 77 and in the senior caddies category, Alimamy Kargbo stood tall amongst others with a net of 73.
In the student’s tournament of nine holes, Talisa Shallop grabbed gold with a net of 56 and the youngest golfer of the tournament, 7 years, was won by Jason Michael with a net of 33 after battling six holes. Zidane Gassama won the community veteran tournament.
In the squash U-16 competition, peter Juana of St. Edwards Secondary school came 1st and Edward Stevens of the Sierra Leone Grammar School came 2nd.
In the Tennis doubles, Alie Marah and Gema won championship and both were applauded when receiving prizes. The ceremony was jam packed including dignitaries, sponsors and there was enough food and drinks throughout the colourful ceremony .
