MRU Scribe meets with Sierra Leone Foreign Affairs minister

Freetown, (SLENA): The Secretary General of the Mano River Union, Haja Dr. Sara Baraba Kaba has held discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Samura Kamara.

The meeting, which took place at the Minister’s Gloucester Street office in Freetown, discussed the role of the Ministry and its relationship with the Mano River Union

The meeting came about as a result of an invitation extended to the MRU to brief the Ministry of its activities. The meeting revealed plans of how the Mano River Union and the Ministry will work to further strengthen the relationship between Sierra Leone and the MRU basin.

Addressing the meeting, the Secretary General of the Mano River Union, Haja Dr. Sara Baraba Kaba said since her assumption in office, she has held ten statutory meetings on various issues relating to peace and security, the free movement of people, mineral resources, environment, infrastructure and elections.

She said a country cannot single handedly handle security by itself or solve the problem of education as well as agriculture.

Haja Kaba said the union can now boost of a piece of land set to construct a permanent structure for its headquarters in Sierra Leone. This, she said, is a major achievement for the union.

The Mano River Union Secretary General told the Minister of plans by the union to look into border crisis, maritime and the Mali unrest among other issues. She informed him of the Mano River Union 40th anniversary, which will be held in October this year.

On his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Samura Kamara thanked the MRU Secretary General for honoring the invitation, saying it has revealed some facts that the Ministry will work on to further make it more proactive on activities of the Mano River Union.

He requested her to send reports that will be significant to equip the Ministry as it is in its restructuring process.

The Mano River Union, Dr. Kamara went on, formed an integral part for the development of all Mano River Union countries.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the foreign Affairs Ministry.
