Sierra Leone Trade Minister Graces AGM

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara, has called on members of the TAWOPANEH Traders Co-operative Credit Union Ltd to be more united, visionary, focused and developmental-oriented like their counterparts in Ghana and Kenya.

The Minister made the call past Saturday while delivering the keynote address during the third Annual General Meeting of the seven-year-old Union held at 118 Fourah Bay Road, Freetown.

Alhaji Usu Boie Kamara, who is also a member of the Union, stressed the importance of the Union in the development of our national economy, citing that Germany, which is among the most developed European economies, started with co-operatives. He urged the Union to try to have an office, noting that co-operatives in Ghana and Kenya have their own offices.

The Trade Minister encouraged the Union members to invest in the education of their children, describing education as the key to success. He pledged to prevail on government to support and strengthen the Union.

Welcoming members and guests, the Board Chairman, Alimamy Kamara, said that, as usual, the main purpose of the AGM was for members to receive the annual report and audited financial statement for 2011 and 2012 and for them to approve the budget for 2013 financial year.

Formed in 2005, the Union can now boast of 326 members.
