Big shake up Sierra Leone Police, 3 AIGs out

The Executive Management Board of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has made some major transfers within the senior management level of the force to fill in some existing senior vacant positions with the view to boost the level of security in the country.

The senior police positions became vacant after the departure of three Assistant Inspector Generals of Police (AIG) for peacekeeping purposes in Darfur, Sudan.  The transfers took effect from January 2013.

Names of the three AIGs to Sudan are AIG Philip Wellington, former Regional Commander, Freetown West, AIG Mannah, former Regional Commander, east and AIG training Komba.

Media departments of the SLP confirmed the transfer of other senior police officers to fill the vacant positions and other top policing positions within the ranks of the force.

Speaking to this press, Communication Director of SLP, ASP Ibrahim Samura (in photo) disclosed that former Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Chief Superintendent Karrow Kamara will now assume the office the Regional Commander Freetown east, while Chief Superintendent J Kanbeh takes over as Regional Commander Freetown west, and Chief Superintendent Vincent Nabieu now takes over training.

Other major transfers at the SLP included former Local Unit Commander A Division, Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Koroma now becomes the new CID Director. CSP MemunatuConteh now moves over to A Division as LUC.

Several other transfers occurred within the police force.  Some officers have already assumed their new offices.

Sources within the Sierra Leone Police intimated to this press that the recent development was expedited as a result of the current increase in armed robberies across the country.
