Mr. M B Atila paid a deliberate late night visit to the juvenile home (DEMS) based upon information he had received  that prison officers were in the habit of smuggling female inmates to guest houses at night.

Upon arrival, the deputy minister found everyone was in bed and he started calling names.  Within minutes, officers assembled before the minister for questioning. He started by asking the number of police officers attached to the home. He had earlier been told that there were eleven in number but upon inquiry he found only one police officer at the home that night.

The minister instructed the lockup officer to give him access to the suspects to have a chat with them, during which he listened to testimonies from a good number of them.  The Deputy Minister promised to pay another visit in the near future.

Those who saw the minister at the juvenile home that night commended him for braving it at that odd hour. The minister, sources say, had paid similar unannounced visits to the Approved School at Wellington where the school land has been allegedly sold to private people by the former administration.

“If President Koroma and his APC government have the likes of Atila, then the “Agenda for Prosperity” is on its way to success,” an observer commented.

Asked how he was getting his information, the Deputy Minister said he was once a journalist, hence his nose for news.  He said further that based on the trust and confidence the President Koroma has in him by appointing him deputy minister, in collaboration with his boss, Mr. Moijueh Kaikai he is at all times ready to do what the nation expects the Social Welfare Ministry to do.
