Director implicated over illegal logging in Sierra Leone
Latest reports reaching this press intimate that the Director of Forest and Reservation, Mr. Sheku Mansaray is engaged in the indiscriminate timber logging.
Sources disclosed that Mr. Sheku Mansaray is covering with illegal timber operators in the country as he continues to receive allowances from big timber mafia just to see that the temporally 6 six months ban is observed.
Sources further state that Mr. Sheku Mansaray and colleagues were recently embarrassed at State House by President Koroma over what he described as inefficiency to run their office as a result of the kickbacks annually given to them.
Sources further noted that even the timber is most times taken to neighboring countries such as Guinea.
Sources further revealed that despite the fact that Mr. Sheku Mansaray is paid from the consolidated revenue fund, he continues to seek the interest of selfish individuals.
However, the Chairman of the Atikudia Association, Mr. Allan Barrie said a new MOU has been put in place by both parties and will be forwarded to the President for prompt action.
Chairman Barrie called on all timber operators to operate within the frame of the law and the Association and assured this medium that unlicensed power saws will be put to a halt.
When contacted at his Youyi Building office in Freetown, the Director Mr. Sheku Mansaray partly accepted the blame.
