Gulf FC eye premiership qualification
Kono city 1st Division giants, Gulf FC are one of the nationwide 1st Division teams to compete for premiership qualification this weekend at the SLFA Academy, Kingtom.
They are known to be a very good side with lots of talent and who have dominated the 1st Division side in Kono city for the past years.
Representing Kono this time round, they were held to a 0-0 result by their arch rival Dabundeh FC but went ahead to punish KL FC 4-2 to qualify for the Eastern Region play-offs.
In the play-offs held in Kenema Gulf FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Moa Warriors of Kailahun and a 0-0 draw by African Team FC of Kenema to guarantee them a visa for the national 1st Division qualification slated this Sunday 10th February 2013 at SLFA Academy, Kingtom,
Twelve teams across the country will represent their various regions and Gulf FC are in “Group B” together with stationary Stars FC and Alan-Thababan FC; the champion and runners-up in each group will qualify for the quarter finals.
Gulf FC opening match is slated for Sunday 10th February 2013 against Alan-Thababan FC of Makeni and their final match will be against Stationary Stars on Tuesday 12th February.
Speaking to team manager T-M-Amnday, he said the team is in good spirit and optimistic of qualifying to the premiership category as they have all the material to represent Kono in the premier league.
“At the moment there is no serious injury worry and nothing to fear and this year is Gulf FC’s year of premiership qualification and prosperity,” he boasted.
The team will leave for Freetown on Friday 8th February for the battle of supremacy.
The grand final of the two qualifiers to the premier league category will climax on 22nd February 2013 at the SLFA Academy.
