Burkinabé President seeks UNIDO support and discusses energy access issues

Mr. Compaoré explored the possibility of UNIDO helping his country with expertise, support and the implementation of new projects needed to accelerate sustainable industrial development.
Noting the recent appointment of Mr. Yumkella as Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative, President Compaoré also expressed deep interest in how the UN initiative could help his nation which has high potential of solar energy.
Director General Yumkella also met with other African leaders including President Joyce Hilda Banda of Malawi, Gambian Vice President and Minister of Women’s Affairs, Aja Isatou N’jai-Saidy. AU Commissioners of Agriculture, Trade and Industry discussed matters of mutual interest at a lunch session.
