Over Reappointment of Education Minister… FBC Lecturers may down tools again
An influx of information from lecturers and students of Fourah Bay College (FBC) , University of Sierra Leone of plans of a strike action if Dr. Minkailu Bah (in photo) is reappointed to serve as Minister of Education Science and Technology are circulating.
When news of the proposed strike action broke out in the morning hours of Tuesday 11th December, Sierra Express Media visited the FBC campus to ascertain the virility of the rumors. Both lecturers and students were scattered profusely in different groups discussing the possibilities of a strike in the event that President Ernest Bai Koroma who also doubles as the pro-chancellor of the university decides to retain the substantive Education Minister in his second term of office.
Students spoke in unison that education degenerated to doldrums and they have been deprived from lectures and even their examination papers have not been marked.
Although lecturers decided to keep a sealed lip on the issue, sources in the college administration confirmed to this press that the action is imminent and that they have already advised the students to stay out of campus until January 2013.
Bah who was a lecturer in the college before he became minister is said to be at loggerheads with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joe A D Alie and a host of other lecturers, which has become of serious concern to the University Court.
