Addressing a jam packed gathering of disabled people both young and old, the executive director of DIF-SL Madam Imambay Kadie Kamara assured the disabled community of Sierra Leone that she is part and parcel of them since she was born to a disabled mother. She noted that she has passion for disabled persons and she always wants to be with them, eat with them, sit and play among them. Imambay revealed that she formed this organization because disability has been around her all her life and she wants to address their needs and alleviate their suffering. She noted that she formed the organization in the year 2000 when she lost her disabled mother.
She added that she loved her mother so much that she feels pity for disabled persons, adding that she wants to break the barrier between able and disabled people. She further explained that she is working hard and putting mechanisms in place to get most of the disabled children out of the street, if not all of them. She disclosed that she has written a letter to the Ministry of Social Welfare to get a statistics of disabled children and women nationwide for proper planning and securing records. Madam Kadie Kamara calls on well meaning Sierra Leoneans and other agencies to join her in sourcing funds to address disabled issues.
She intimated that she is going to take care of Madam Betty Musa who has no hands but is widely known in Sierra Leone for her talent and can do many wonderful things that will attract audience. She said Betty is presently with her and she is her contact person and she is going to take her along wherever she goes.
According to Madam Imambay Kadie Kamara said she has organized a party, beauty pageant and drama for the children at her office for them to enjoy themselves, adding that disabled people have much potential which makes them useful in society.
