American Philanthropist involved in fraud

American philanthropist, Bruce Grifiths, was arraigned before Magistrate Davies Cole of Court No. 5 on Monday 3rd November, 2012 on one count charge of fraudulent conversion of property, to wit, 30,000 bags of rice, one rehabilitation machine, one satellite dish and ‘V’ satellite electronic communication equipment, contrary to section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, it is stated that Bruce Grifiths in June, 2010 in Freetown fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit said property, all to the total value of Le 5.56+ Billion entrusted to him by various donor organizations abroad for onward delivery to SALONE FOUNDATION, the complainant herein, in order to support educational, agriculture and health development activities undertaken by the complainant in Sierra Leone.

The defendant lawyer Francis Keifala, applying for bail on behalf of his client advanced reasons why the accused should be exonerated from the said charges.

In response the complainant lawyer Mohamed P Fofanah, made no objection against the application levied in for the accused person.

The matter was adjourned for further sitting.
