After Months in Jail… Murder Suspect Freed

Fanta Kamara, an accused person charged on one count of murder, charged at the Freetown Magistrates Court No 2, has been discharged at the closing proceedings over the murder case of a four month baby named Obai Sesay.

Giving his ruling which sent Fanta home to her family after months behind bars, Magistrate Komba Kamanda said the prosecution has failed to prove their case against the accused. He said as the prosecution were unable to provide any sufficient evidence to convince the court that the accused had a case to answer to and henceforth discharged the accused.

The prosecution had lined-up five witnesses, none who testified that the accused either killed the four month old baby or had any remote involvement in the death of the baby. A statement from pathologist Dr Owizz Koroma in his testimony before magistrate Komba Kamanda, laid the basis for Fanta’s freedom saying that the four month baby died of natural cause rather than what was being purported against accused.
