In a bid to close the country’s first National Business Plan competition after six months of hard work by all bidding entrepreneurs in their bid to win the accolade of Business Bomba 2009, designed to foster widespread entrepreneurs as a central element of effort to transform the private sector into the engine for diversified growth, foster a culture of entrepreneur that recognizes, rewards and support entrepreneur across the country, the final appraisal has been held at Family Kingdom in Freetown.

Business Bomba which was launched by the vice president Alhaji Sam Sumana on the July 7th 2009 created a massive nation wide response and recognition of the Business Bomba brand across the country. Nearly, 600 people across the country were interested in applying and close to 300 formal applications were received out of which the final twenty winners were selected through three rounds of judging including finalist pitching their business proposal to a national panel of distinguished judges known as the lion’s den. Thirty percent of the applications were from the North, South and East. Sixty percent of business proposals were on agriculture and sixteen percent were on new businesses aimed to create jobs.

President Ernest Bai Koroma in his key note address reminded all present that on assuming office he vowed to run the country as a business because he believes in the spirit of entrepreneurship. He noted that he is encouraged that many businesses are moving towards that path. He further noted that winners are symbolic of what the country is yearning to become. But in the same vain, advice all entrepreneurs to be law abiding and treat there workers fairly He ended up by saying 2010 is the decade for Sierra Leone entrepreneurs that will help aid wealth creation, resourcefulness thereby transforming Sierra Leone development. However, twenty winners parted the Family Kingdom hall on Friday 15th January with Leone 5 million, as business support voucher and twenty million cheques each. Interestingly, the top five winners were watching themselves suspiciously while their heart beat increased until Ever Robert was announce as the first Business Bomba for 2009 with Le75 million cheque followed by Emmons Hancil, Tapiya Melvin Kanu, and Mustapha Klah and Alhaji Mohamed s Bah with Le70,65, and 55 million respectively.
