MMCET Faces Eviction Threat
The Faculty of Hotel, Tourism and Nutritional Sciences in the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, MMCET, Brookfields campus, is reported to be under serious threat of eviction by the Hilcot Company that is to renovate the Brookfield’s Hotel.
This has been confirmed by the dean of the faculty; Ken Bangura during a recent interview in his office.
Mr. Bangura, however, stated categorically that under his regime, the faculties will not move from the campus.
“I am waiting for the day the bailiffs or whoever will come to evict us”, he stressed.
The Dean informed SEM that an Act of Parliament gave the faculty the mandate to occupy the Brookfield’s campus and to use the twenty-four bed structure as a training laboratory.
“Therefore, nobody will evict us, we are determined to stay on the campus which we are occupying legally,” Ken Bangura emphasized.
For effective training, he went on, the faculty must stay in a hotel environment and the best government should do for us is to help us with finance to rehabilitate structure and the classrooms.
Mr. Bangura also called on government to ensure that the Tourism Act is passed into law to safeguard the faculty which, he said is playing a pivotal role in the development of the national tourist industry.
