Political rallies and provocations in Sierra Leone

The rallies of political parties currently being organized in the country have revealed that the people of Sierra Leone are still yet to know where they came from and where they are heading for. We say this because we see how a lot of Sierra Leoneans continue to fan the flames of discord and animosity in the country by uttering provocative and abusive words on their opponents during these rallies.

Incidents abound of how the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the All Peoples Congress (APC) are constantly issuing insults and threats against each other at their rallies, and in some instances, they have physically attacked each other resulting in serious injuries.

As a paper we regard such a development as very unhealthy and one that should not be allowed to continue if we are to have peaceful and credible elections on November 17.

We call on all Sierra Leoneans to tolerate each other and to allow each party to carry on their rallies without any harassment so that on Saturday, November 17 we shall go to the polls and vote peacefully for the candidates of our choice.
