NCD & PPRC call for violence free elections in Sierra Leone

Hundreds of Sierra Leonean were assembled at the National Stadium Complex on Friday, November 2, over a national call by the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) in collaboration with the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), on a campaign phraseology of violence free-election in the forthcoming November polls.

The occasion was able to attract senior stakeholders across all sectors in society. The forum was designed to commit all the ten eligible political parties’ leadership to make an official verbal statement in denouncing violence across it ambit of political millage. Chairpersons of the occasion were Dr. Abubakarr Kargbo of NCD and Cyril Macfoy of PPRC, who emphasized the need for the nation to keep its hard earned peace and democracy.

Both chairpersons saw the need to reflect down memory lane of the eleven years civil strife which happened to be the darkest days in our lives as a people, in views aimed to streamline political views and ideologies not to fan the flames of those periods of unforgettable sufferings.

They noted that the political campaign rallies, especially by certain political parties, have being gripped with all sorts of invectives and derogatory statements, all with the potential to ignite chaos.

In pledging their support in kicking-out the elements of violent activities, ten representatives of the various political parties as follows: the All People’s Congress Party (APC) Hon. Coleson Turay, the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Suliaman Banja-tejan-Sie, People’s Liberation Party Flag-bearer Dr. Barber Kandeh Conteh, UDM Secretary General Bai Mamudu, PMDC Felix Fofoe, CDP Gibril Gblah, RUFP Samuel Cole, and UNPP Mohamed Fofanah, all spoke in the climax of denouncing violence  in selling their party’s philosophy.

Also lending credence to the issue were the Executive Representatives of United Nations Secretary General ERSG in Sierra Leone special representative, representative of the Commissioner of PPRC, National Youth Commission Director Representative, representative of the Inspector General of Police and the representative of the Civil Society Platform for Non-Violence Election.

The occasion was also flavored with performing artists of various musical groups of which the central message was fighting against violence, especially before and after the elections.
