FC Johansen Sierra Leone a conduit for good things – Isha Johansen
They say despise not the days of small beginnings, because better is the end of a matter than the beginning of it. Interestingly, that is exactly what the Founder/CEO of the rapidly growing Football Club in Sierra Leone FC Johansen (FCJ), Isha Johansen has done. In five years, FCJ has moved from a non-division football team, to a Sierra Leone Premier League giant. A twenty one (21) match unbeaten streak, made the club under the guidance on former Sierra Leone International John Keista the team to beat.
In 2009, she took a youth side to the colossal Spanish side Real Madrid hoping to etch FC Johansen’s name in the history annals of Real Madrid by playing against their Youth side. It was a bitter and humiliating experience. An outing, which FC Johansen, lost 9-0. This result almost saw Real Madrid FC erecting a seeming “Great Wall of China” in the communication link they had with FCJ. Mails were bouncing back and contact numbers appeared non-existent.
However due to the growth and steady development of FCJ, those seeming walls in the communication lines between FCJ and RM has crumbled and the lines are back on and as the dawn of a new era breaks, signs are that regardless of the results FCJ may have this time round the door to RM will be left ajar to FCJ. Already, RM has extended an invitation to FCJ billed for April 2013 against their Youth side for a show piece after four years.
This new development and several other possibilities came as a result of a visit made to Real Madrid recently by buoyed and beaming SLFA Presidential hopeful Isha Johansen.
According to Isha, talks which would turn out positively are already in progress with the Real Madrid Foundation to partner with the FCJ Foundation. It will be a project that will attract high profile players of RM in addressing social and health issues.
She maintained that her thrust in forming this partnership is not only about FC Johansen but about Sierra Leone. “FCJ is only a conduit and a facilitator and in all of this, and in all that we are doing, it is not restricted to FCJ especially with the RMF. If they come out here, it will be to support youth football project or to send the message out on a national level. This is something I want people to realise that the fact that I go out there or FCJ goes out there, we are looking at the bigger picture regarding how we could develop and promote Youth Football. ”
