A Rousing Welcome for incoming Head of Chancery Sierra Leone Embassy USA

The newly posted Counselor and Head of Chancery to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Washington DC, USA -Mrs. Isatu Sema Aisha Sillah (nee Bangura) has received a rousing welcome from the Ambassadors, staff, and representatives of some members of the Sierra Leonean community in the United States of America. Speaking during a welcome ceremony, Ambassador Bockari Stevens warmly welcomed Mrs. Sillah and expressed delight in receiving her as the new chief administrator and looks forward to having a good working relationship with her.

Further, Ambassador Stevens informed members present that based on information he has gathered about Mrs. Sillah from well-meaning Sierra Leoneans she could be described as a capable administrator with a wealth of experience, good mannered and high educational credentials. He hoped with these tools at her hands she will build on her predecessors’ successes.

Almost two weeks ago, Mrs. Isatu Sema Aisha Sillah (nee Bangura) reported for duty at the 1701 19^th Street Chancery, wherein she was formally introduced to Home based officers and other staff of the embassy.

Welcoming her, Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Ibrahim S. Conteh described her as an astute officer who attained her present position through dedication to duty and hard work.

Ambassador Conteh described the Washington DC based embassy as a very busy station that requires a tough and intelligent officer like Mrs. Isatu Sema Aisha Sillah (nee Bangura) serving as Head of Chancery.

Mrs.Isatu Seima Aisha Sillah is a (BA) holder with a major in political science minor-history and philosophy from Fourah Bay College- University of Sierra Leone, and (MSC) in Rural Development from N’jala University of Sierra Leone. She has a diploma in computer management, a certificate in International Diplomacy (Cairo- Egypt) and a certificate in Public International Trade Law (Uganda).She has attended over 50 international and national seminars and has travelled over 46 countries in the world.

Mrs. Isatu Seima Aisha Sillah has served in various capacities in different Government Ministries in Sierra Leone from 1993 to date first as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and the Environment, Trade and Industry, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Reconstruction (RRR) as Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications and was later posted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in 2004 as Deputy Secretary. She served in various capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the following: Counselor/ Head of Chancery Sierra Leone Embassy in Brussels, Belgium and the European Union, Deputy Director Administration and Finance Division, Deputy Director Africa Division, (Director Europe Division ( 2009-2012 ) and Ag. Director Protocol/Chief of Protocol)- the two positions she held simultaneously as dual director for the first time in the history of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for two months before her departure to the Washington Mission. She also had a brief sojourn as senior reporter for ’’ for di people newspaper’’ under the editorial -ship of Mr. Paul Kamara and the late Olu Richie Gordon.

The Ambassadors also bade farewell to the outgoing Head of Chancery Mr. Sheku Mesali and the two First Secretaries whom they also praised for their hard work,innovations they brought to the Mission during their tenure which they hoped Mrs. Sillah will surely build on based on her high flying skills in diplomacy and administration.

In her remarks Mrs.Isatu Seima Aisha Sillah thanked the President His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the Foreign Minister Hon. J.B Dauda for posting her to this all important mission and with the support of the two great ambassadors and staff pledged she will do all her best to put Sierra Leone on the map. Mrs. Isatu Seima Aisha Sillah is married to Ansu Sillah and has three children.
