Lawless and Defiant… Maada Bio Blocks Presidential Convey in Sierra Leone

Regardless of the spate of non-violence campaigns that were filtered across the citizenry, political big guns are being malevolent in its effect and are seen to be the very ones that are inciting violent activities to the chagrin of decent people in society.  (Photo: SLPP presidential flag bearer, Brigadier (Ret.) Just yesterday, while gangs of Sierra Leone Peoples Party supporters partied their way to the NEC nominations at the National Stadium, the president, H.E Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma was also on his way to address state matters, and right underneath the historic cotton tree of Freetown, gangs of happy-go-lucky supporters clad in green congregated around the black jeep totting the flagbearer and presidential candidate Maada Bio with his running mate Dr Kadi Sesay which intercepted and blocked the exit route where the president’s convey was to have passed through.

The president had the only alternative to wait until the crowd moved past as some of his security personnel disembarked from their vehicle to ensure security.

The vehicle that carried both the SLPP presidential candidate and his running mate deliberately stopped thus blockading the presidential convoy while Bio grinned and waved in utmost disobedience and defiance.

At this SLPP supporters went haywire and were clearly heard insinuating all sorts of malicious jargons against the president.

Observers demonstrated their resentment on the ugly scene as they thought that the unwarranted attitude of Bio and his supporters would spur up an unprecedented incident of violence.

However it is incumbent on every citizen of the nation to abide by the rule of law and to do everything they can to prevent violence as we approach the elections and even after completion.
