Airtel Launches DIVAS
Airtel on Friday 5th October launched its much awaited DIVAS at the Hill Valley Hotel. The master of ceremony Miss June Rose Johnson said in her opening remarks that DIVAS was an initiative for female empowerment in the work place and in career basis.
Giving the welcome address Francess Sawyer of the human resource department said that this has been an exciting week for the female staff of Airtel. Francess further stated that Airtel DIVAS is to add and improve on the value as eligible women in society which depicts true characters of a good woman.
As DIVAS was launched under the theme ‘Building Strong Characters’, Airtel has joined their counterparts in other operations across Africa, all aiming at emancipating, liberating, and creating strong women of substance, who even though they come from different backgrounds, culture, and race, still have the determination and drive to succeed in life.
Madeline Bat-Williams who is also of the human resource department spoke on the background of DIVAS. Airtel DIVAS is an initiative targeting women at Airtel. It supports Airtel’s ability to attract, retain, and develop talented women. It is also aimed at providing a sustainable platform to enhance women in Airtel and enhance knowledge transfer to up-coming women in the organization, providing role models for women through development, coaching, and building relationships as a development and retention strategy.
The acronym DIVAS stands for:-
D –Diligence I – Integrity V- Virtuous A –Accommodating S – Strong CharacterAirtel believes that through this initiative they will be able to:
- increase the engagement level among female staff in the organization;
- increase progression of women up to professional leader;
- overcome unique challenges face by women at the work place.
- create more sensitivity to Diversity which is the best practice for a leading organization.
The weekly activities of DIVAS was:
Monday 1st – Mitchelle Obama Day, in which Hawa Bah won. Tuesday 2nd – Colors Day, in which Ndidi Ulasi won. Wednesday 3rd –Africana Day, in which Samuella Aboko Cole won. Thursday 4th – Isha Johansen Day. in which Avril Pratt won. Friday 5th – DIVAS – Jacklyn Davies, Maria Kamara and Mary Jones won respectively.Managing Director RVS Bhullar said in a brief statement that he will continue to support the Airtel DIVAS as this is a good initiative in the workplace.
Airtel DIVAS was launched by Ambassador Haja Ilari Cole who encouraged the DIVAS to be an equal opportunity employer and to seek one another’s interest.
The launch was climaxed by a fashion show of different tribes by a cross section of the AIRTEL DIVAS.
