Sierra Leone Ambassador to China calls for concerted efforts

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, with accreditation to several other countries in South East Asia and Pacific Region like Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam among others, His Excellency, Ambassador Abubakarr Multi-Kamara has called on the workforce at the Mission to put concerted efforts and be supportive of each other especially in making the work of the Mission a success.  (Photo: Ambassador Multi-Kamara and the new officers)

He spoke on Thursday, 4th October 2012, whilst welcoming the First and Second Secretaries of the Mission, Mustapha Ansumanah and Augusta Akibo-Jones, respectively. The event was also a platform to mark China’s Anniversary, which is currently being observed with a week long holiday and festivals.

In his brief but inspiring statement, Ambassador Abubakarr Multi-Kamara, spoke that it was a “modest way of recognizing the national day of China” and for which he will “like to congratulate them” and further spoke that he will continue working towards strengthening the long standing cooperation ties between the two countries. Whilst welcoming the two new officers at the embassy, the Ambassador underscored the point that as Head of Mission, he will give them the needed support in executing their work and   also called on them to provide him with all the support he needs. “I am committed to building and strengthening the team to ensure that we achieve our country’s overall objective”, he said.

Responding, both the First and Second Secretaries expressed how honored they were, that the Ambassador and his wife could organize such a welcome ceremony for them and in return, also promised to give their utmost support and commitment  to the work of the Embassy.

The Second Secretary, Augusta Akibo-Betts Jones in her remarks stated of how she was “particularly honored to be welcomed by the Ambassador…” saying the presence of several Chinese nationals at the welcome ceremony, marks the importance of the Sino-Sierra Leone relations. “Your presence here at this event, as our Chinese friends, demonstrates the level of friendship that exists between Sierra Leone and China. She also extended her appreciation to the Sierra Leone Community for their attendance, saying, “I want to assure you that we are here to work not just for the Foreign Ministry but to also work for Sierra Leoneans.” She promised to give her best “in fulfilling the agenda of His Excellency the President “and in also ensuring the success of the Ambassador, saying, and “…your success is our success”

The First Secretary, Mustapha Ansumanah in his remarks also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Ambassador and his wife for hosting such a welcoming event for them. “Leadership counts and when a team is supportive, then there is bound to be a success and our presence here demonstrates that”, he said.

The event attracted a cross section of the Sierra Leonean Community, Chinese nationals and friends from within the diplomatic community.  Also in attendance was the Head of Chancery of the Mission, Paul AS Minah.
