SLPP endorses President Koroma’s initiative
The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Pujehun District Chairman, Sadiq Sillah, has applauded the initiative of President Ernest Bai Koroma to set up the Attitudinal and Behavioural Change (ABC) Secretariat, to help direct the attitudes of Sierra Leoneans from negative to positive. Members of the High Table with the Chairperson. Mrs. Hariett Turay
He made this endorsement on Tuesday 2nd October 2012, at the British Council Hall, Tower Hill in Freetown, during the second-day in the week-long sensitization and interaction forum dubbed “Positive Attitude Week”.
The forum is being held by the Attitudinal and Behavioural Change (ABC) Secretariat in consultation with the Ministry of Information and Communications.
At the ceremony witnessed by hundreds of participants from various works of life including political parties’ representatives, bike riders, Ataya base members and others, the SLPP big gun confessed that he was very much impressed with the success being achieved by the Secretariat.
“The attitudes of Sierra Leoneans are so negative to the extent that we actually needed an institution and people that were specifically going to target the attitude aspect of the lives of Sierra Leoneans,” he said, while describing the decision of the President to appoint the ABC executives to man what he described as an all-important institution as a step in the right direction.
He stressed that the President’s ABC initiative must be supported by all and sundry, while assuring that his party, which abhors violence, will always hold the attitudinal change initiative to high esteem.
He called on the ABC executive to continue with the good work they have started, and advised them to always endeavor to separate politics from their job.
He encouraged the various stakeholders to take the workshop very seriously, and serve as ambassadors to widely distribute the message from the forum. According to him, positive attitude is the way out for a prosperous nation.
He further used the forum as an opportunity to call on parents to always ensure they imbibe positive traits in their children, as according to him, the children are the future of tomorrow.
In his statement, the President of Ataya Base, Ben Samuel Turay, commended the ABC executives for organizing the ‘laudable’ and ‘timely’ workshop. He expressed hopes that more of these programs are held in especially the western area ahead of the crucial elections, as according to him, the western area is becoming notorious for violence.
Mr. Turay argued that lack of jobs for the youths is among the major factors for their negative attitudes, although he stressed that the youths have no justification for that. He however used the forum as an opportunity to urge the government to provide jobs for the youths, as he puts it; an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
President of the Bike Riders Associations, David Sesay, said the bike riders are very much resolved to name and shame any politician who attempts to involve them in violent activities, while pointing out that his organisation represents peace.
Statements were made by various political parties’ representatives including the APC and RUFP.
