Sierra Leone Ports Authority New GM Tasks Staff Members
The Sierra Leone Ports Authority’s newly appointed General Manager, Abubakarr Bangura on Thursday 27th September held his first consultative meeting with his staff at the SLPA premises, Queen Elizabeth II Quay, Cline Town, on the issue of tackling some of the problems disturbing the progress of the SLPA.
The GM admonished his staff that he seeks a working relationship with all of them, citing a open door policy if they are ready to work with him. He added that lack of communication reduces the growth of any developing entity in a state, as well as the economy.
He noted that he will provide a suggestion box for his staff to air their views about the company hoping that this initiative will bear fruit. He said that he will not encourage the spirit of gossiping; noting that if they work as a team embracing peace and unity, the company will realize an increase in maximum profit. He appealed to the senior officials for them not to relax and leave everything to the junior workers, and he threatened to sack non-performers.
Abdul Kamazu, SLPA Union president spoke on behalf of his colleagues saying things have been very difficult for them with the past GM, outlining some of the problems that they are facing in the company such as lack of communication, corporate politics, politics, tribalism etc., adding that these elements are the impediment tormenting their work.
Heads of various departments outlined lapses in their departments, after which the General Manager called for a new team spirit for the betterment of the company.
