The meeting took place at the Chancery Building in the Northern District of Al-Massef and was chaired by the Minister Counsellor/Head of Chancery, Mr. Ibrahim S. Yilla. The meeting was attended by a good number of Sierra Leoneans in Riyadh.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador thanked his nationals for the role they always play during Hajj. He informed them that, now that the Government has taken over the organization of the Hajj, it was even more incumbent upon them to work diligently towards its success.
As the representative of His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, it is the responsibility of the Embassy at each Hajj season to strategize with the community to ensure a hitch-free Hajj.
He informed them about the officials who will accompany this year’s pilgrims to the Holy land and that the Embassy has also appointed Sierra Leone nationals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to work in collaboration with each of the officials from Freetown.
These include officials for: Administration and Food, Transportation, Security at the hostels, “Tawaaf”, Stoning at Jamaraat, Luggage, among others.
Explaining the rational for the convening of the meeting, the Minister Counsellor said that the Embassy wanted to discuss with the community the persons among them who would be appointed to partner with the heads of the divisions appointed by the Hajj Mission from Freetown.
Mr. Yilla said that the Embassy and the nationals have a social responsibility to help and guide our fellow nationals to practise and fulfill their religious rites, adding that Hajj is one of the fundamental tenets of Islam.
To ensure the security, safety, and happiness of all pilgrims, the Minister Counsellor assured that Embassy personnel will be deployed in each of the Hostels and will be required to report on any short-coming to the Embassy’s hot lines for immediate necessary action.
Responding, speaker after speaker expressed satisfaction at the initiative of the Embassy to convene such a meeting which they described as “Strategic and Important” for this year’s Hajj.
